OLYMPIC BLEMISH THANKS TO MAREK

It has been reported by The Associated Press that cross-country skier Kornelia Marek has tested positive for EPO during the recent Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

The International Olympic Committee recently made the announcement; indicating that Marek has been the only athlete to face serious penalties including official disqualification from the 2010 Winter Games as well as an imposed 2-year ban from the International Ski Federation & automatic disqualification from the upcoming Winter Games in Russia.

Despite her efforts to cheat the system, Marek only placed 6th-place in the women’s 20,000 meter relay, 11th-place in the 30-kilo mass start, and 9th-place in the women’s team sprint.  Perhaps out of shame, Marek is bowing out of upcoming world events.

Undoubtedly, this is a blemish on her life’s journey and a stain on the legitimacy of Polish athletic programs.  For years, American, Chinese, and Eastern European nations have wrestled with the determination of their athletes to cheat.  Reasons why athletes persist in their efforts to cheat the system vary; ranging from fame/fan feedback to monetary gain from endorsements onward to national pride.  Poland has had this problem before and continues to suffer when its athletes are busted in this manner.

We – at steroidanalysis.com, wish the best for Marek and Polish athletes regardless of whether they are amateur or professional.  Much work must be done on this matter which extends well beyond the borders of Poland.
