Another Giant Player Bites Dust
Update: July 18, 2011
SAN FRANCISCO (AP)
The Major League Baseball’s Commissioner’s Office announced today the suspension of SF Giants outfielder – Melky Cabrera after testing positive for a banned performance-enhancing substance. The suspension is effective immediately for 50 games with forfeited pay.
Later, Cabrera responded to the announcement by offering a full confession via the Players Union. ”My positive test was the result of my use of a substance I should not have used. I accept my suspension under the Joint Drug Program and I will try to move on with my life. I am deeply sorry for my mistake and I apologize to my teammates, to the San Francisco Giants organization and to the fans for letting them down.”
28 year old Cabrera’s accomplishments include (but are not limited to…) MVP of the 2012 All Star game, a batting average of .346, 11 home runs, 51 hits alone in the month of May, etc… Now, he – too will have an asterisk alongside his name and the full list of accomplishments for this outfielder will become suspect. What a waste!
